In the spring of 2003 Emily was honored as the 1st Unsung Hero in Howard County. Creig Northrop developed & sponsored the awards with the Baltimore Sun Papers. Although Emily was undergoing difficult treatments at the time, this honor and event was one that brought her great joy. Community members, friends and neighbors nominated her for her loving and caring spirit. The Art Camp she held for local children, among other things, was cited.
